I am crazy about this album. It’s not widely known because it’s an import EP. That makes it all the more special, right?! I think so. This album was released in 1999, and for those of you who know your Coldplay, you know this is before Coldplay was made famous with Yellow

There are five songs on this album:

1. Bigger Stronger - My favorite song on the album and also on my list of top 10 Coldplay songs overall.
2. Don’t Panic - This song is later remixed and recorded on Parachutes. Also in my top 10 Coldplay songs overall.
3. See You Soon - See You Soon appears on other albums and is also done live on the 2005 tour.
4. High Speed - This song is #1 on my list of top 10 Coldplay songs. Jonny on guitar is amazing - and it has a phantasmagoric sound to it that makes me smile.
5. Such a Rush - I always wonder if this song is the reason why they named a later album, “A Rush of Blood to the Head”.

Ok. Here’s the thing: It is my greatest fantasy that Chris Martin will somehow stumble upon me. Maybe just one day he’s Googling himself (don’t we all?) and he sees that I have written a post about him every day. Remember the Shawshank Redemption, where the protagonist wrote a letter a day to his congressman to fund a library, and finally they got sick of his letters and acquiesced to his demand? Well, that’s the basis for this experiment.

Even as a pre-teen drooling over Michael Jackson (I know, can you believe how he turned out?! Ewwwwwww!) I never was obsessed with a band or a singer, in particular, as I am with Coldplay and Chris Martin. Don’t worry Chris, my love, I’m not stalker obsessed. I even felt guilty snatching that picture off of Google images of you holding your baby, as I thought how awful it must be to constantly be “on”. Still, I right clicked and saved to my hard drive to look at again and again.

Coldplay has a special place in my heart the way that Madonna’s “Bedtime Stories” and Nirvana’s “Unplugged” albums do. It was X&Y that was the soundtrack of summer, 2005, and I spent most of it upstairs in my bedroom with a new baby. Song by song they won me over, after having stated, “They are too much like U2… don’t you see that their new video is just like U2??”

Slowly, album by album, they crept up behind me and took me by the hair. After X&Y, I worked my backwards through their discography, listening to A Rush of Blood to the Head and Parachutes. My students at school got tired of Parachutes and begged to go back to X&Y, and my family at home was sick of hearing AROBTH and asked to listen to Parachutes.

My Husband somehow managed to produce some harder to find stuff for me. I don’t ask, I just say, “Thank You, Marky” and listen to my Colplay that was freshly uploaded onto my mp3 player for me. So now I have a pretty complete collection of released and unreleased studio Coldplay B-sides, demos and EP’s, as well as a rapidly growing collection of video and audio live Coldplay (most recently 02/20/07 from Argentina). The live shows are by far the best, excellent quality, and my favorite part:

Chris Martin and his silly stories (like the Abbey Road Studios show where he refers to his brother’s pink tuxedo and his parents’ drunken romp in the hay).

And… for the record… if you are Chris Martin and you are reading this, you owe me ice cream! (pretty please, with sugar on top?)

I had never seen this video until today.

From the moment I wake to the moment I sleep, Catalina loves Coldplay.
